Job Description
- The Assistant Chief Engineer, you will report directly to the Chief Engineer.
- You will be be responsible for the efficient operation of the hotel property and all its equipment, ancillary maintenance and repair services and protection of the Owner's asset, ensuring that the structural aspects of the hotel as well as the maintenance of grounds and external facilities are carried out in a in a scrupulous and effective manner.
- You will also ensure that Intercontinental hotel Fire, Life and Safety policies are adhered to;
- Assist in the financial management of the engineering department as far as adhereing to the maintenance budgets;
- Ensure that all Engineering staff are well qualified and technically compentent.
- Assisting the Chief Engineer, you will lead hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion of projects within budget;
- Serve as the hotel's expert and authority on Building Services and Asset Management, strategies, development, corporate responsibilities, regulations and legislation;
- Review utility consumption and cost, and offer solutions that will improve profitability through appropriate energy management and awareness of changes in technology and processes.

Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering
- Extensive "Hands On" Engineering experience with at least 5 years demonstrable managerial experience in aninternational 5* luxury hotelof similar size and complexity
- Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and carpentry fields.
- Excellent communications skills, written & oral proficiency in English.
- "Out of the box" thinking mentality
- Business savvy and good people skills
- Experience in emerging markets / similar hard locations
- Visionary & strategic thinker and ability to convert this to action
